Deliverance

Deliverance, or exorcism, is the process in which an evil spirit is removed from the body or soul-nature of a person.  Sometimes the process is quick, sometimes not so quick.  There are a lot of factors at play in a Deliverance such as the faith of the individuals involved and the strength of the demons.  Jesus rebuked his disciples because they lacked the faith to remove a powerful spirit.

Mat 17:19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, Why couldnt we drive it out? 20 He replied, Because you have so little faith..."

If you can't seem to get your problem solved by prayer alone then you should consider some spiritual warfare against evil spirits that could be the root of your problem. You see, you don't pray a demon away. You have to use your authority in Christ and command it to leave. Sometimes a simple command is all it takes, sometimes it takes more.

The Bible has many references of people being affected by evil spirits.  Just look at the following scriptures that deal with evil spirits.  This is evidence that this is an area of ministry that should not be overlooked.

  Matt 10:1

o   10:1 He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.

Matt 4:24

o   24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them.

Matt 8:16

o   16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.

Matt 12:43-45

o   43 "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, 'I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first.

Matt 9:32-33

o   32 While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus. 33 And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel."

Matt 10:5

o   5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.  6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.

Matt 12:22-23

o   22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. 23 All the people were astonished and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"

  Matt 12:28

o   28 But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

  Matt 15:21-22

o   21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession."    28 Then Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted."

  Matt 17:15-18

o   15 "Lord, have mercy on my son," he said. "He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him."

o   17 "O unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me."  18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.

  Mark 1:32-34

o   32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

"You deaf and mute spirit," he said, "I command you, come out of him and never enter him again." 26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, "He's dead." 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.

Mark 16:9

o   When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.

Luke 4:33-35 (There were demons in the church in Jesus day)

o   33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 "Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!"  35 "Be quiet!" Jesus said sternly. "Come out of him!" Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.

  Luke 4:40-41

o   40 When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. 41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" Luke 6:17-19

o   17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.
